Welfare, Medication & Illness
At Hazelwood, we take the care of our children very seriously. Mrs Crawford-Okanay, the Admin and Welfare officer, is available throughout the school day to deal with incidents and meet with parents to discuss any medical issues. She is supported by a team of First Aid trained staff (as well as some paediatric first aid trained) who are on hand to support as required.
We have a dedicated welfare room in Oak Building as well as first aid kits in every classroom. We are also fully equipped with a defibrillator and stock of epi-pens and asthma pumps.
Medication
It is really important that you notify the school if your child has a medical condition. We will ask you to complete an Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP) that details the condition and what we need to do to support your child. If you are unable to access the link above, please ask in the office and we can support you.
We know that children will often be prescribed temporary medication for various needs. Should your child require medication in school, we are only able to administer this where it has been prescribed by a medical professional. Medication should be handed in to the office and a permission form will need to be completed so we know how to administer the medication. Please complete this form for Temporary Administration of Medication.
Generally, epi-pens and asthma pumps, as well as any other medication, are stored centrally in the welfare room.
For more information regarding medication, please refer to our Medical Policy below.
Dietary Requirements and Allergies
Our external catering provider, Hertfordshire Catering Ltd (HCL) aim to cater for all dietary requirements and allergies. We ask parents and carers to provide as much information as possible to enable us to support this as best we can. HCL can provide a special menu, which can be applied for via the following link: https://specialmenu.hcl.co.uk/
At Hazelwood, we are a nut free school and take this very seriously. Food that contains nuts must not be brought into school under any circumstances. This include products that may contain nuts. All items brought in for birthdays must be pre-packaged.
If children have allergies that require medication (e.g. piriton), please follow the process for medications outlined above.
