Visits to School
Learning Walks – and Records of Visit
Spending time in the schools is considered an essential part of the Governors’ role at Hazelwood, and we do this in a number of ways. By seeing first hand how policies and teaching practice are delivered in classrooms and other enrichment activities we can inform our decision making and views with primary evidence.
We make termly visits to the school to see the schools in action – typically visiting classrooms, looking at children’s work, talking to teaching and support staff and talking to children about their learning.
We agree a particular focus with the leadership team and have a “debrief” at the end of the morning. All governors write a brief “Record of Visit” which sets out what they have seen and any issues that have been discussed.
